HOLLAND – Each year, the City of Holland’s Finance Department produces a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending June 30.  For the past 22 years, the City's CAFR has received annual recognition from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada.

To receive recognition, the City must comply with the highest standards for disclosure and provide pertinent trend information beyond that which is required by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board.

HOLLAND – The Department of Public Safety Services would like to remind the public that fireworks are illegal outside the times designated surrounding National Holidays in the City of Holland.

The possession, manufacture, storage, sale, handling and use of fireworks are prohibited. Fireworks offenses are misdemeanors punishable by up to 90 days in jail and/or a fine up to $500.

HOLLAND – The City of Holland partnered with Escape Ministries, Ottawa County Michigan Works, Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce, Manpower, Lakeshore Advantage, and the City of Holland’s Department of Public Safety to continue the Holland Youth Connections Work program for at-risk youth.  The City of Holland is particularly excited about the recent expansion of the Program to 77 public school students from Holland, Wavecrest, West Ottawa, Hamilton and other areas.  These employment opportunities provide youth at-risk with job experience, career skills, and a chance to serve their communities.  Since the implementation of this program, the Summer Youth Program grew from 12 students and revenues of $20,020 in the summer of 2013 to 77 youth and employer and donor revenues of $132,970 in the summer of 2014.  We are grateful specifically to the 20 employers and 40 donors that made this expansion possible.

The City of Holland is taking another step forward in its pursuit of the Community Energy Plan.  We are ready to launch a 50-house pilot program for Home Energy Retrofit. The goal of this program is to determine the effectiveness of energy saving measures when applied to our housing stock.  Pending the results of this pilot program, we intend to implement a larger program which would make this service available to every city residence.
