Putting in place the Holland Community Energy Plan will involve lots of learning city-wide about how to save energy and money.

As a component of the Community Energy Plan, the City of Holland has partnered with the Green Home Institute to provide a FREE energy inspection and energy performance label for up to 50 homes in the City of Holland. This $350 value is offered to residents of the city of Holland for no cost.

Together, the City of Holland and the Green Home Energy Institute are aiming to bring awareness to residents about energy efficiency in their homes and to learn of opportunities where they can increase efficiency.

Holland's race for "$5 million and change" launched Thursday evening in a kick-off complete with a chat with the Georgetown  University Energy Prize founder. A room full of government officials, movers and shakers and smart energy advocates. An envoy from Lansing bearing a proclamation from Gov. Snyder. And just a little trash talk.

Good-hearted trash talk, to be sure. But the competition is serious.
