Voter Registration

Michigan has a permanent voter registration system which continues the registration of any person once registered who has not moved out of the city.

How to Register
Residents may register to vote for federal, state, and local elections by mail, at their county, city, or township clerk’s office, or by visiting any Secretary of State branch office (Holland branch: 587 East 8th Street).

If you have never voted in Michigan and register by mail, you must appear in person to vote in the first election in which you wish to participate. This requirement does not apply if:

•you personally hand deliver the registration form to your county, city or township clerk’s office instead of mailing the form
•you are 60 years of age or older
•you are disabled
•you are eligible to vote under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act.

Voters registered by the 30th day before an election are eligible to vote in that election. A person must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age, a resident of Michigan for at least 30 days and a resident of the City on or before the 30th day prior to the election in which they plan to vote. Voters must cast ballots in the polling place assigned to their precinct.
