Heritage Days and Civil War Muster at the Historic VanRaalte Farm. Join DeGraaf Nature Center as we celebrate Michigan’s heritage at the Historic VanRaalte Farm at the corner of 16th Street and Country Club Road. You will be transported back to the 1860's with all the re-enactors dressed in period military uniforms and dresses. The battles of Chancellorsville and the battle of Little Round Top at Gettysburg will be fought at 2:00pm both days with cavalry, artillery, and companies of Union and Confederate soldiers. You will see authentic camp sites and President Lincoln and a field hospital. There is a church service at 10:00am on Sunday, September 8th in front of the House. Parking is at JCI off 24th Street where you can catch a shuttle over to the farm. Bring a blanket to sit on. The battles are fought at the bottom of the sledding hill and the spectators sit on the hill. The event opens at 9:00am. It will be a weekend to remember with lots of history and stories to savor. Demonstrations, hands-on activities, games and more are featured. This family event is open to all ages. Free admission with small fees for crafts. No registration required. This activity is part of the Civil War Reenactment hosted by the Holland Museum.
