West 40th Street Construction
This is a City of Holland and Board of Public Works project to update underground utilities, add curb & gutter and repave the roadway.
Construction Limits -
West 40th Street between S. Washington and Lincoln Avenues.
Project Information -
Total road reconstruction to update underground utilities, upgrade storm sewer line, add curb & gutter and then repave the roadway.
Phases -
Construction will be done in Three Phases to minimize disruption to 40th St. residents.
Phase I - 40th St from Lincoln to just east of College Avenue.
Road will be closed to through traffic May 29 - May 7.
Phase II - 40th St from just east of College to just east of Pine Avenue.
Road will be closed to through traffic May 10 - July 2.
Phase III - 40th St from just east of Pine to Washington Avenues.
Road will be closed to through traffic from July 5 - August 27.
Paving – Final paving from Lincoln to Washington will be complete Approx. Sept. 15.

Completion Date -
Fall 2010 Anticipated completion date Sept. 30, 2010. Some turf restoration may remain.
Detour Routes -
No through traffic is allowed. Motorists must follow posted detour.
40th St Residents will generally be able to access their homes with the exception of when excavation, concrete or asphalt work is being performed directly in front of their property.
Caution -
We are asking parents in this area to please keep an extra special eye on your children. Road workers are reporting children on dirt piles and biking through the construction zone. While we understand how tempting large dirt piles and heavy equipment are to children, we must remember that this is a work zone, not a playground.
Open Houses -
The City and Board of Public Works hosted an informational open house on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Maplewood Elementary School.
Thursday, June 11, 2009 40th Street Reconstruction Project Workshop was held at Maranatha Christian Ref. Church, 918 Central Ave. Residents and interested community members were invited to provide input to the work shop team at this public meeting.
Monday, June 15, 2009, The results of the 40th Street Reconstruction Project Workshop were presented. At Maranatha Christian Ref. Church.
Project was discussed at the City Council meeting August 5, 2009.
