Today at approximately 1:30 am today, fire department personnel responded to 942 Brooks Avenue for a manual fire alarm. While enroute, responding units were advised that there was a confirmed fire in the building. First units arrived on scene in less than 4 minutes to find heavy smoke inside the building. Fire fighters worked to locate and eventually extinguish the fire which was contained in a vent duct.
The cause of the fire is under investigation however appears to have originated in process equipment and ignited material in ductwork associated with this equipment. Damage was limited to this ductwork and the total loss is estimated to be less than $5,000.
Fire personnel were on scene for about 1.5 hours to vent smoke from the structure and implement other property conservation measures. Assistance during the incident was received from the Holland Police Department.
