Holland Fire Fighters Repond to a Roof Fire at Challenge Machine, 1401 Challenge Drive

Press release date: Mon Jun 2nd, 2014

At 8:24 PM today, HDPS Fire Services personnel were dispatched to 1401 Challenge Drive for a report of a fire on the roof.  Personnel from the arrived on scene to find a working fire on the roof above a manufacturing area.  Personnel implemented immediate efforts confine the fire to a limited section of the roof and the fire was under control within a half hour of arrival

The preliminary cause of the fire appears to be accidental in nature and most likely the result of sparks from a manufacturing process inside the plant igniting combustible framing supporting a sky-light. An investigation into the exact cause is being conducted by the HDPS Fire Marshal.  Damage estimates are not available at this time.  Personnel remained on scene for over 2 hours completing salvage and overhaul.  There was little or no damage to the interior of the building and employees were able to re-enter the building and resume production within two hours of the time of alarm.

Units and personnel responded from all three Holland Fire Stations.  Mutual aid was received from the Holland Township Fire Departments. Additional assistance was received from American Medical Response.
