Open Burning & Recreational Fires Prohibited - effective July 6, 2012, until further notice.
Press release date: Fri Jul 6th, 2012
The City of Holland Department of Public Safety Fire Services in accordance with the 2006 International Fire Code is prohibiting all open burning and recreational fires until significant rain removes the threat of rapid fire spread.
The 2006 IFC 307.1.1 states that “open burning that is offensive or objectionable because of some or odor emissions or when atmospheric conditions or local circumstances make such fires hazardous shall be prohibited.” Due to the ongoing excessive heat and lack of rain, it has been deemed that all open burning including recreational fires are prohibited until further notice.
This ban of open fires / recreational fires does not include the use of approved grills and barbeques that are manufactured for the purpose of cooking.
Holland Fire Services is authorized by the 2006 IFC to order the extinguishment of prohibited fires.
