At 9:05 PM on Sunday, August 3, the Holland Department of Public Safety was dispatched to an accident on 32nd Street near Apple Avenue.
A 1993 GMC Suburban was traveling East on 32nd Street near Apple Avenue and according to witnesses crossed the centerline causing a head on collision with a motorcycle traveling West on 32nd Street.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 57 year old Holland resident, was transported by AMR to Holland Community Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
Investigators determined that the GMC Suburban had 3 occupants at the time of the crash. Immediately after the collision, 2 occupants exited the vehicle and fled from the area on foot. Responding Officers were able locate these two individuals and took them into custody approximately a quarter mile from the site of the crash. The third occupant was also taken into custody and lodged at the Holland Department of Public Safety. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in this accident and investigators will be meeting with the Ottawa County Prosecutors to determine appropriate criminal charges.

The deceased motorcycle driver in this incident is identified as David Achterhof, a 57 year old resident of the City of Holland.
The 3 occupants of the vehicle are all in custody at the Holland Department of Public Safety being held for ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) as a result of their immigration status. The Holland Department of Public Safety is working closely with the Ottawa County Prosecutors Office and additional criminal charges may be filed.

The Ottawa County Prosecutor’s office has issued a 3 count warrant for the 30 year old male involved in this incident. He is charged with OWI causing death, DWLS causing death, and failing to stop at a fatal accident.
The 30 year old male will be arraigned in the 58th District Court later today and his identity will be released after this hearing.

Eulises Mora-Hernandez, 30 years of age, was arraigned in the 58th District Court by Judge Knoll. He bond is set at $250,000.00 cash surety.
