Police Officer of The Year Selected

HOLLAND, Mich. (courtesy WOOD) - The Holland Department of Public Safety has announced its police officer of the year.

Ofc. Kris Haglund accepted the award at a recent Christmas celebration with staff and retirees.

Haglund was hired by the Holland Police Department in 2003 as a patrol officer. He graduated from Stephenson High School and attended Grand Valley State University where he obtained a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He then completed his pre-service training and police certification through the Grand Valley State University Police Academy.

In 2008, Officer Haglund was assigned to West Michigan Enforcement Team (WEMET), the regional drug enforcement task force, and excelled as a detective.

In September 2011, Haglund returned to the patrol division.

"He is an extremely hard worker who has great enthusiasm for police work. In nominating him for this award, his peers cited him as a team player who is dedicated to the law enforcement profession, the citizens of Holland and the Holland Department of Public Safety," according to a news release.

Officer Haglund has received multiple commendations from the department, including receiving a Life Saving Award in 2005.
