Police investigating fatal crash on M-40 south of I-196 interchange

At approximatley 6:19 a.m. Wednesday morning, Holland Department of Public Safety personnel were dispatched to a traffic crash involving a semi truck/trailer and a passenger car.  Upon arrival emergency responders found the driver of the passenger car pinned in his vehicle had died of multiple injuries.  The truck driver was not hurt.

The intial investigation indicates that the victim, identified as 30 year old Joshua Hoppe from Zeeland was southbound on M-40 in his 2009 Ford Fushion when the 2014 Kenworth semi truck and trailer driven by David St John, a 54 year old from Wellston, MI pulled out of the south driveway of the truck stop at 4630 Lincoln Road/M-40 to proceed northbound on M-40, pulling into the path of Hoppe's vehicle.

Holland Victim Service's personnel were called out to assist and notify the family of the victim who was a teacher for Hamilton Public Schools.  Hamiton School officials were immediately notified as well.

Police officials had a stretch of M-40 in front of the truck stop closed for several hours while investigating the cause and circumstances that led up to the crash.
