Shots fired leaves one man injured

Press release date: Sat Jan 18th, 2014

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On January 18, 2014 at 1:54 a.m., officers of the Holland Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the area of 11th St. and River Ave. on a report of several shots fired.  Upon arrival, officers located several subjects in the area of the Golden 8 Ball pool hall as well as several spent casings in the parking lot of an adjacent church parking lot.  The individuals located would not cooperate with investigators or provide any details of what had occurred.

A short time later HDPS received a call from Holland Community Hospital of a subject who had arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound.  Investigators spoke to the victim, a 30 year old Grand Rapids man, who would only provide limited information but claimed to have not been directly involved in the shooting but rather was struck with a “stray” bullet.  The victim was shot in the chest and sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The case remains under investigation but at this time it is unknown what the motivation for the shooting was or if it was gang related.

Anyone who has information about this case is urged to contact the Holland Department of Public Safety at (616) 355-1100 or detectives at 355-1150.  Persons also may email investigators at policetips@cityofholland.com.
