UPDATE 4-9-13 1035 hours
The two suspects arrested in this incident were arraigned late yesterday afternoon by The Honorable Judge Bradley Knoll on charges of Armed Robbery in the 58th District Court. Both suspects were given court appointed attorneys and their bond continued at $100,000.00 cash/surety for each. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for both subjects in the Holland.
Carlos Leshon Massey, 20 year old from Holland, Michigan. Massey’s preliminary hearing was set for Wednesday, April 10
Jamaal Burke, 21 year old from South Holland, Illinois. Burke’s preliminary hearing was set for Thursday, April 11.
On 4-6-2013 at 0811 hrs, officers of the Holland Department of Public Safety were dispatched to a robbery/home invasion, which had occurred at a residence in the 200 block of west 14th St. The victims reported that 2 male subjects entered the residence and then threatened the victims with a handgun demanding cash.
The victims were not able to give cash to the suspects. One of the suspects then assaulted the male victim. The suspects then fled the residence having taken a large screen television. As the suspects were leaving, the victims were able to obtain a description of the suspect vehicle. The victims were also able to provide the name of one of the suspects from having met him about a week prior.
The description of the vehicle was put out to law enforcement agencies along the lake shore. At approximately 0842 hrs, officers of the South Haven Police Department and Allegan County Sheriff’s Office located and stopped the vehicle on I-196 near South Haven. The vehicle was occupied by four males.
The victims were able to assist in identifying the two suspects who had committed the robbery. Both were taken into custody. Also located in the vehicle was the handgun used in the crime as well as the television which was taken.
The male victim, a 20 year old Holland resident, was treated and released at Holland Hospital for minor injuries.
The suspects, a 20 year old Holland resident and a 21 year old South Holland IL resident, have been lodged in connection with the incident. Names are being withheld at this time pending arraignment next week.
