On Saturday, April 19, the City of Holland, Gazelle Sports, and the Holland Youth Advisory Council will hold the second Run of the Mill fun run/walk. Sponsored by Russ’ Restaurants, A.D. Bos, New Holland Brewing Co., Boer’s Transfer & Storage, Padnos, Magna Closures, Haworth, Inc., Elzinga & Volkers, Kenowa Industries, and the Dutch Consulate of West Michigan, this event promises to be a great way for the community to come together for an important cause. The event will be held at Windmill Island and all proceeds from the event will go towards the Endowment Fund at the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland area for the DeZwaan Windmill.
The Run of the Mill 5K will start at 9:30am with the walk to follow at 10:00am and a Kiddie Dash around DeZwaan at 10:30am. Cost for the 5K is $20 for individuals, $10 for ages 6-15 years and $50 for families (of up to 4), and for the walk only $5. After the run, cookies baked by the students from the Baking Department of the Tech Center and made with flour ground from DeZwaan Windmill will be served. You can register online at www.signmeup.com/98389 or pick up an entry form at Gazelle Sports or at City Hall in the City Clerk’s office. Register by April 5 to ensure getting a T-shirt.
A community Open House celebrating the “Turning of the Blades” on the newly-restored DeZwaan Windmill will also be part of the festivities for Saturday, April 19. The official dedication ceremony will take place at 9 a.m.in the Celebration Pavilion, immediately preceding the start of the run. Windmill Island Gardens will open free of charge to all visitors from 9 am to 5 pm on April 19th, so that the community can see the windmill in operation and enjoy the beautiful grounds.
