FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
At approximately 11:10 pm Sunday, HDPS Fire Services personnel were dispatched to 336 W 14th Street on a residential structure fire. Personnel from the Kollen Park station arrived on scene within 3 minutes to find the residence living room fully involved. Fire personnel conducted a search of the residence and the residence was unoccupied and unfurnished and under restoration by the landlord. The cause of this fire is being investigated as suspicious. Both electric and gas utilities had been previously shut off to the residence. Early damage estimates are believed to be in excess of $65,000.00.
As fire crews were working that fire, at approximately 12:40 a.m. Sunday, HDPS Fire Services personnel were dispatched to 143 W 11th Street on a report of a residential structure fire that that originated on the porch and was fully involved as well. Initial reports indicated the house was occupied however later determined the owner was in the home at the time of the fire. When fire personnel arrived, the house was unoccupied. Fire personnel were able contain the fire to that residence however the residence is believed to be a total loss.
Other individuals had access to the home and investigators are interested in speaking to anyone that had access or was in the home earlier in the evening. The cause of that fire is being investigated and is not believed to be related to the W 14th Street fire. Holland Fire officials and investigators are asking to speak to anyone that may have any information about either fire.
Three Holland firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion on the scene of the 11th Street fire by American Medical Response (AMR) paramedics.
