Calling all gardeners! There are two weeks left to enter the “Blizzards to Blooms” Garden Contest that will recognize exceptional spring/summer gardens at homes, offices or businesses in conjunction with the 2014 America in Bloom competition. The deadline is July 15, 2014.
The Grand Prize is an original drawing of the winner’s home or garden by local artist Carolyn Stich. The Grand Prize winner, along with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, will receive gift certificates from either Jonker’s Gardens or JW Greenhouse. Winners will be recognized during the visit to Holland by the America in Bloom judges July 29-30, 2014.
The contest is open to residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial properties within the City of Holland that are planted and maintained by amateur gardeners. Residents and businesses are encouraged to nominate their own or a neighbor’s garden, window box, front, back or side yard. Entrants are encouraged to submit “before” (winter) photographs and required to submit up to 5 “after” (summer) photographs of their garden along with an official entry form. Forms are available at Holland City Hall, the Holland Parks and Cemeteries Department at 429 East 24th Street, the Holland Convention and Visitors Bureau at 78 East 8th Street, Carolyn Stich Gallery and Store at 208 College Avenue, Jonker’s Garden at 897 Lincoln Avenue, JW Greenhouses at 6731 120th Avenue, and online at www.hollandinbloom.com. Submittals can also be made via email, and instructions are included on the entry flyer.
America in Bloom (AIB) is an independent, non-profit organization that envisions communities across the country as welcoming and vibrant places to live, work, and play - benefitting from colorful plants and trees; enjoying clean environments; celebrating heritage; and planting pride through volunteerism. The City of Holland is entering the contest for the 4th consecutive year, having won its population category and one criteria award in each of the past three years. The City was also admitted to AIB’s “Circle of Champions” by virtue of the awards received.
Join in celebrating the pride planted in our community by nominating an outstanding summer garden to be recognized!
