Brian Burch became a member of City Council in 2009, elected by Holland’s third ward, which represents the true center of the city—bordered by 14th, 15th streets and Lake Macatawa on the north, 24th street on the south, River/Michigan and Central Avenues on the east and Graafschap Road on the west.
Brian is a senior associate with Lambert, Edwards & Associates, a top-10 Michigan-based public relations firm, where he specializes in consumer marketing, social media and communications strategy for clients including Zondervan, The Salvation Army, the Grand Rapids Community Foundation and Produce for Kids, among others.
He has made Holland his home for four years, but he has lived in cities large and small.
Brian was born and raised in Rockford, Mich. He earned a bachelor of business administration in advertising and promotion from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich., and from there began his career in the Chicago offices of Ruder Finn Public Relations and Fleishman-Hilliard International Communications. His professional career brought him back to West Michigan where he served as the public relations manager at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids.
Brian serves his community by volunteering with the Alzheimer’s Association of West Michigan and on the board of directors of the West Michigan Public Relations Society of America. He is an active parishioner at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, participating in the music program as a cantor and choir member. Brian is also an avid runner and completed the 2008 Chicago Marathon.
Brian’s wife, Angela, is a physician’s assistant practicing internal medicine and pediatrics with Lakeshore Health Partners, a Holland Hospital company, and is an active member of the Holland Junior Welfare League. They have one daughter, Charlotte, who was born in January 2009. Together they take frequent walks with their beagle, Maggie. If you see them, be sure to say hello.
He is next up for election in 2013.
