Saturday, April 19, is the opening day of the 2014 season at Windmill Island Gardens. This year, April 19th will also be a day of community celebration of the restored Windmill DeZwaan.
The celebration will begin with the official dedication ceremony at 9 a.m.in the Celebration Pavilion. Participants in the 2012/2013 strategic planning process that resulted in a Fresh Vision for Windmill Island, contractors, supporters and donors to the Windmill Island Gardens Future Fund are especially encouraged to attend this event, although everyone is welcome.
The City of Holland, Gazelle Sports, and the Holland Youth Advisory Council will hold the second annual Run of the Mill fun run/walk, sponsored by Russ’ Restaurants, A.D. Bos, New Holland Brewing Co., Boer’s Transfer & Storage, Padnos, Magna Closures, Haworth, Inc., Elzinga & Volkers, Kenowa Industries, and the Dutch Consulate of West Michigan. The Run of the Mill 5K will start at 9:30 am with the walk to follow at 10:00am and a kids run around DeZwaan at 10:30am. Registration is online at www.signmeup.com/98389 or pick up an entry form at Gazelle Sports or at City Hall in the City Clerk’s office. Proceeds from the event will go towards the Endowment Fund at the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland area for the DeZwaan windmill.
Windmill Island Gardens will open free of charge to all visitors from 9 am to 5 pm on April 19th, so that the community can see the windmill in operation and enjoy the beautiful grounds.
