The Human Resources Department serves all City of Holland employees, and works closely with management to create a fair, consistent, and positive working environment. 


Here are a few of the day-to-day operations and objectives for the Human Resources Department:

  • Recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new employees
  • Strategizing, administering, and educating employees on the various health and retirement benefits
  • Wellness programming
  • Management of the non-union full and part-time employee performance evaluation process
  • Employee relations, coaching, and managing the progressive disciplinary process
  • Providing professional development opportunities for employees and management
  • Union contract negotiations
  • Employee Safety programming and workers compensation claim processing
  • Position evaluations, compensation strategies, and recommendations for position reclassifications
  • Succession planning
  • Maintaining fair and consistent policies and procedures
  • Planning and hosting employee events


The City has over 600 employees with more than 200 full-time employees, 77 year-round part-time employees, and over 300 seasonal employees with variable schedules throughout the year.
