Tulip Time

When is Tulip Time?

Tulip Time 2023 is Saturday, May 6 through Sunday, May 14.

What are your hours for Tulip Time?

During Tulip Time, the park opens at 9am and remains open until 7pm with admission sold until 6pm. Please plan ahead as only guests who have purchased admission by 6pm will be allowed entry. Due to the large number of visitors on the weekends, there may be lines to enter our parking lot and purchase admission to the park - entry to the park is not guaranteed until admission is purchased. During the remainder of our season (April 15-October 1) we are open 9:30am to 6pm with admission sold until 5pm.

When should I visit?

Tulip Time is a very popular period to visit our park; we encourage visits on weekdays or outside of Tulip Time to ensure access to the park. We usually have tulips in bloom before and after the festival. The weekends of Tulip Time are especially busy and our parking lot will fill up – weekdays tend to be a little less busy.

When will the tulips bloom?

While it is too early to predict peak bloom, our tulips generally begin blooming in late April and last through mid-May. We have a variety of tulips so they cascade into color rather than all blooming at once.

You can take a look at the City of Holland's Tulip Tracker HERE to see the progress of tulips around town!

What is admission?

Admission is $12 for adults and $6 for kids 3-15 years old. We encourage guests to pay with credit card to speed the entry process. Please note that reciprocal admissions are NOT valid during Tulip Time.

Is parking available?

Yes, we have a ~250 car parking area. When it is full, our causeway is closed to incoming traffic until spots open up. Additional free parking is available in Downtown Holland including a parking structure on 7th Street between Columbia & College Avenues (just past our entrance on the right) – from there it is just under a mile walk to our ticket booth.

Is there transportation available?

We will have buses shuttling visitors down our causeway on the Saturdays and Sundays of Tulip Time. Visitors should park downtown and catch the bus near the Holland Train/Bus depot - where Lincoln Ave. ends in a turnaround. The bus will bring you down our half-mile causeway and back up after you've visited. Please note the shuttle is only for visitors parking downtown to help alleviate our parking crunch.

Do I need to wear a mask?

Guests may wear a mask if they choose though it is not currently required.

Can I purchase admission in advance?

While we do not currently offer advance admission, guests may purchase a membership online HERE which provides free access to our site and free/reduced access to dozens of other American Horticultural Society reciprocal gardens in the US and Canada. Please allow 2 weeks for your membership card to arrive. Note that there may still be lines to enter the parking lot and the park itself. Due to visitor number restrictions, we are unable to guarantee entrance to the park at peak times.

Is food available?

We have a limited number of food options including snacks from our gift shop and a food wagon throughout the week. Visitors are encouraged to check out the many food options located downtown - restaurants and special festival vendors.

What else is there to do around town?

While Tulip Time is a little different this year, Holland still has a lot to offer. Check out the festival website to see what is going on the week of Tulip Time as well as Holland.org to find places to eat, sleep and have fun.

Can I buy flour, wooden shoes, Delft, etc.?

Yes, we offer a range of local and Dutch souvenirs in our Gift Shops. Please note that mill products (flour, grits, etc.) are unavailable at this time.

How can I help support Windmill Island Gardens?

We would welcome you to purchase a membership to support our work HERE. They allow free access to Windmill Island Gardens as well as free/reduced access to many gardens in the American Horticultural Society reciprocal program. Donations to assist our future endeavors are accepted HERE and very much appreciated!
