End of week one
City of Holland, I’m your Mayor, Nathan Bocks.
This week we have all been adapting to the new rules and new reality of the Governor’s stay at home order.
At City Hall and throughout Holland, our front line staff are maintaining our essential city services.
When you see a first responder, wave and smile.
When you turn on your lights or water, think of our dedicated BPW staff.
When you watch a city council meeting, know that we are working to keep you safe and healthy by focusing our time and attention on our most pressing issues. It is who we are.
And there are dozens of people you don’t see making sure we keep our promise that the City of Holland does not close.
They continue to do a fantastic job. We owe them all a debt of thanks.
Let’s do what we can to make their jobs as easy as possible. We want people to be outside, we want people to use City parks and open spaces, but Please follow social distancing rules. It is incredibly important.
While maintaining social distancing, our community is coming together in unprecedented ways.
Our local Non profits have been doing a fantastic job of ramping up services to assure that our most vulnerable are protected. Please, keep supporting them and each other. It is who we are.
And Holland is planning for the future. This week I had a video conference with over a dozen community leaders working together to prepare for the days after the virus so we will be ready to come back stronger than we were before. It is who we are.
Our streets may be empty, but we are active. We are social distancing, but we don’t sit still. We are finding ways to adapt.
I want to see what you have been doing this week. I want to see how you have made distancing “social.” Holland has a great video team. They have set up a way for you to share what you have been up to. You’ve all seen the great videos promoting Holland. Now is your chance to be part of one.
Send us your videos and we will compile them to show the world the best of who we are.
How have you been managing cabin fever?
How are you supporting local charities?
How are you improving your lives and your community?
Here are a couple quick tips:
Shoot your video horizontally.
Don’t be Disney dad, If you have to pan, pan slowly.
Keep them short and to the point. We want to share as many as we can.
