Mayor’s Message from Community Action House

City of Holland, I’m your Mayor, Nathan Bocks

I’ve been hearing about so many great things happening during this time of uncertainty, I had to come out and show you one.  Following social distancing guidelines of course.

Today I am visiting Community Action House.           I’m here with Megan Maas to tell you about how you can help.

This is just one charity, one program, one opportunity for the people of Holland to support one another.  More are listed on the City of Holland website.  There is much we can do to help each other.

Take the time to acknowledge and thank our first responders.  Our heroic police and fire departments, our health care providers, and everyone on the front lines providing for our health and safety.

And the unsung heroes, the truck drivers, trash collectors, utility workers, grocery store and restaurant workers, and everyone who is behind the scenes, keeping our community running and making our lives better in the process.

They are all keeping the promise that the City of Holland does not close.

We need to do what we can to support them, and to help make their lives easier.  Please, follow the Governor’s Order, especially when it comes to social distancing.  Its the best way to keep ourselves and our neighbors healthy, we need to do what we can to help prevent the spread of the virus.

We should all be staying at least 6 feet away from anyone who is not in our household.  Smile, waive, and shout a greeting.  That’s friendly and safe.

If you are careful, you can still go outside.  You can still go for a walk or run.  Sunshine, fresh air, and exercise are good for our physical and mental health.

We will beat this by caring for ourselves and for each other.  We will win by standing together but 6 feet apart.

I continue to be incredibly impressed by the hard work and dedication of our City Staff, our leadership, and the members of this community.  You have stepped up and risen to the challenge.  I couldn’t be prouder to be your Mayor and to call Holland my home.

City Council continues to hold our regular meetings.  We would love to have you watch on our YouTube channel and send your public comments to the email address on the screen.

And April 1 is Census day.  Please do your part and be counted.  It’s only nine questions and it means so much to all of us.

Keep supporting each other.  Keep caring for yourself and your neighbors.  Keep doing the hard work.  Keep supporting great charities like Community Action House.  It’s who we are and it is worth it.

Before we know it we will be on the other side.  And on that day we will continue to work together.  We will rally and we will rise.  We will rebuild and be what we have always been, a shining example of community and collaboration for the entire world.

Until that day comes, please, stay safe.  Stay healthy.  And wash your hands.  Again!

This is Holland.  And WE get to live here.
