This morning at about 9:30 a.m., Holland Department of Public Safety - Fire Services responded to a report of a possible hazardous materials leak at the Tulip City Truck Stop located at 1796 M40. The first arriving firefighters confirmed a leak from a truck hauling ethanol. The crew began efforts to contain the leak, isolate the surrounding area, and summoned additional firefighters and resources to the scene. The Ottawa County Hazmat team was activated and responded.
This is an ongoing situation and will continue throughout the afternoon. The situation has been deemed under control and there is presently no threat to the public. The product will be offloaded from the leaking trailer once the situation has been deemed safe. Organizations provide scene support include the Holland Engineering Department, Trinity Health EMS, and the National Weather Service.
