[ARCHIVED] No injuries as a result of an afternoon fire at Midnight Sun Tanning Salon

1145 Washington Avenue 01.24.2024

Today at 4:25 PM, Holland Department of Public Safety firefighters were dispatched to 1145 Washington for a fire in a structure. Upon arrival at 4:29 PM, firefighters from the department entered the smoke filled building to verify that occupants were safely out of the building and to locate and extinguish the fire. All occupants were found to have exited the structure and the fire, located in a tanning bed was quickly extinguished. Firefighters ventilated smoke from the structure and verified complete extinguishment of the fire prior to clearing the scene at 5:19 PM.

There were no reported injuries to occupants or responding firefighters. Immediate fire damage was confined to a portion of the tanning bed and there was no extension to the structure. The business should be able to resume normal operations after some additional cleanup. As is a normal practice the department's Fire Marshal initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire which appears to have started in the tanning bed itself.

Others assisting with this response included police officers from HDPS, the Graafschap Fire Department and American Medical Response (AMR).
