At approximately 6:20 PM tonight, HDPS Firefighters and Police Officers were dispatched to Padnos located at 185 W. 8th for a fire in a machine. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a fire originating in a large piece of machinery utilized for the recycling of metal products. The fire began to extend into a small building adjacent to the machinery, however it was quickly brought under control and extinguished, limiting damage to a small area.
Firefighters remained on scene for approximately 1.5 hours to verify extinguishment pack up equipment. There were no injuries to Padnos employees or responding firefighters. The cause of the fire appears to be accidental, however an origin and cause investigation is currently underway to confirm this.
Holland firefighters were assisted on scene by the Holland Charter Township Fire Department. The Hamilton and Graafschap Fire Departments provided station coverage at the Waverly and Kollen Park Stations throughout the duration of the incident. Holland Police were instrumental in managing and re-routing traffic in the Pine and River Avenue corridors during the incident.
