Today at 11:56 am firefighters were dispatched to a report of smoke inside a residence at 167 W. 40th. Units arriving on scene at 12:03 pm encountered a working fire in a bedroom of the 1 story residence. Crews made entry, quickly located the fire and extinguished at approximately 12:13 pm. Crews conducted a search of the residence that was heavily charged with smoke and were able to locate a cat that was in the structure at the time of the fire. The cat is doing well.
There were no injuries to occupants of the residence or to responders. Firefighters remained on scene until around 2:00 pm conducting ventilation and air monitoring. Fire damage is confined to the room of origin and the contents of the room. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and the department's Fire Marshal has initiated an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire.
The department received assistance from the Holland Police and AMR during this incident.
