This morning at 12:42 am HDPS fire units were dispatched to the 200 Block of Calvin Avenue for a fire in the laundry room with pets still inside. Upon arrival at 12:47 am units reported smoke showing from the one story home. Crews entered the structure to conduct a search for occupants and extinguish the fire. All occupants did escape the residence and fire personnel worked to locate pets that were inside the residence. The fire which was located in the first floor laundry room was extinguished shortly after arrival.
Regarding injuries, two adult occupants of the residence sustained minor smoke inhalation and were evaluated on scene by American Medical Response (AMR). Two Holland Police Officers also sustained minor smoke inhalation. Officers made entry to the residence prior to the arrival or responding fire crews to confirm that all residents and pets were evacuated. All were evaluated and treated on scene.
Direct fire damage was confined to the laundry room with smoke extension throughout the house. The cause of the fire has been determine to be accidental and most likely a result of a space heater in close proximity to combustible materials. Complete damage estimates are not available at this time.
