“Good neighbors make great neighborhoods.”
National Good Neighbor Day happens each year on September 28. In response to growing concerns about loneliness and social isolation, there is renewed interest in finding ways to encourage more connectedness within neighborhoods, and that begins with all of us going out of our way to be good neighbors. There are lots of ways to do that, such as hosting a block party or a neighborhood gathering in a park or back yard. It can start with simply saying “hello” or offering a plate of cookies to a neighbor who you don’t know yet.
