The Environmental Committee partnered with Macatawa Area Coordinating Council and Holland High's SHORE Club for our spring beach clean-up at Holland State Park. As part of an EPA grant, MACC provided the orange vests, buckets, grabbers and garbage bags. In exchange the students recorded the trash they collected on the "Clean Swell" app on their smart phones, which records the amount of trash and what kind of trash is on our beaches. Over 25 lbs. was collected. That may not seem like much but it ended up being 2,310 pieces of trash! Plastic items were the most common (1,695), followed by straws (146) and bottle caps (113).

The Environmental Committee was established in the fall of 2019. Their mission is to address the environmental needs of the community including water pollution, beach clean-up and recycling.
The committee hosted a beach clean-up at Holland State Park in October. Over 40 volunteers came to the park to pick up debris along the shoreline.
