What's Next for the Community Ice Skating Park?

To be good stewards of Frank’s gift to our community, we have conducted a public engagement and design workshop to seek community input and support for this vision. On May 2, 2022, the preliminary design and concept were presented to the public at an Open House in City Hall.

Background

Through the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area, the City of Holland has received a generous donation of $1 million from retired educator, Frank Kraai. Frank’s retirement dream has been to bring an ice skating facility to Holland and for everyone to experience the joy of skating.

Since 1997 the City of Holland has explored potential locations and designs for an ice skating park through early visioning efforts and within the 2019 Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Through further study, the CIty has identified Window on the Waterfront Park as the ideal location for the ice skating park. This park has a wide breadth of amenities from flower beds, athletic fields, a boardwalk, the Sally Smoly Nature Playscape and so much more.
