Biography

Scott Corbin will serve his second term on the Holland City Council, representing Ward 5. His full-time role is Director of Emergency Management and Homeland Security for Allegan County where he has led for the past 17 years.  Previously Scott was with Putnam County, Ohio Office of Public Safety for six years. Scott has served as a local Law Enforcement Officer for over 27 years. Scott has also served as a Sergeant in the United States Army Reserve for eight years as a Heavy Combat Engineer and Demolitions Expert. Scott is married to Lisa Corbin and they have two children, Brooke Oosterman and Alex Corbin. They have welcomed three additions to their family over the last year including Brooke's husband Jon Oosterman, Alex's wife Ellie Hile Corbin, and most recently their very first grandchild Ari Oosterman.


Education

Scott earned a Master’s Degree, from the Naval Post Graduate School in Homeland Defense and Security.  In addition, Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Organizational Management from Bluffton University, as well as an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement from Owens Technical College.  Scott currently holds many certifications which include the Professional Emergency Management Certification (PEM).

Emergency Management

Scott has experience dealing with natural, man-made and technological emergencies.  In order to plan for such emergencies a great deal of coordination between the government officials, public safety, non-profit and other stakeholders must take place during the response and recovery of each incident. Palisades Nuclear Plant Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ) includes Allegan County so Scott has an in-depth understanding of nuclear preparedness. Scott served two terms as President of the Michigan Emergency Management Association (MEMA) and currently serves as the Legislative Liaison.  He is also a Board Member on the 5th District Regional Homeland Security Board covering ten counties in Southwest Michigan.

Community Involvement

Scott serves as the Holland City Representative on the West Michigan Airport Authority as the Vice-Chairman, on the Parks and Recreation Committee, and the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority.  Scott has served in the past on the Holland City Planning Commission, as a Board member for the American Red Cross and as an elected official for Gunplain Township and Plainwell School Board. Scott is married to Lisa and they have two children, Brooke and Alex.
